A Quiet Morning, dated 1908, closes the arc of Holsøe's prolific interior series from that year with a subject defined by temporal as well as spatial character. Morning light has a specific quality that differs from afternoon or evening illumination: it enters rooms at a low, often horizontal angle, casting long shadows and creating a sense of freshness that afternoon light, when the sun is higher, does not.
