Reclining Nymph

Domenico Beccafumi painted this Reclining Nymph around 1519, one of his forays into classical mythological subjects. As the leading painter of Siena, Beccafumi brought his distinctively iridescent palette and experimental approach to composition to subjects drawn from ancient mythology. The 1510s were a decade of extraordinary artistic achievement across Europe, shaped by the mature works of Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and the Venetian masters.
