Hayman's Bird-Catching by a Decoy with a Whistle and Net is another of his decorative paintings for the supper boxes at Vauxhall Gardens in London, painted around 1741-42. The Vauxhall commission, which included approximately 50 paintings depicting games, sports, and pastimes, was one of the most significant public art projects in 18th-century England and made Hayman one of the best-known painters of his day.
