Beirut – Mount Lebanon. From the Journey to Palestine shows the Lebanese coastal city with the dramatic mountain range rising behind it — the defining topographic feature of the Lebanese landscape that gives the country its name. The contrast between the Mediterranean coast and the steep mountain backdrop was among the most striking visual aspects of Beirut's setting, and Ciągliński captures both elements in a single composition. This view from the sea or coastal plain shows the city as it appeared to arriving travelers: nestled between sea and mountains.
