Particular judgment of the soul

This painting of the Particular Judgment of the Soul by the Master of Soriguerola illustrates the medieval belief that each soul faces divine judgment immediately after death. Housed in the Museu Episcopal de Vic, it represents the rich tradition of Catalan Gothic painting that served as theological instruction for congregations in the churches of the Pyrenean region during the late 13th and early 14th centuries.
