Landscape Madonna with child and St. John

Andrea Previtali, a Bergamasque painter trained under Giovanni Bellini in Venice, created this devotional subject around 1510. The work reflects the artistic conventions and devotional culture of the High Renaissance period, when religious painting served both public worship and private contemplation across Europe. Now held at Art collection of the Federal Republic of Germany, it demonstrates the artist's contribution to the rich visual culture of the early sixteenth century.
