Aparición de Cristo resucitado a la Virgen
Historical Context
Fernando Yáñez de la Almedina painted this Apparition of the Risen Christ to the Virgin around 1515, a post-Resurrection subject popular in Spanish devotional art. Having studied in Florence where he encountered Leonardo's methods, Yáñez brought Italianate sophistication to Valencian painting. The 1510s were a decade of extraordinary artistic achievement across Europe, shaped by the mature works of Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and the Venetian masters.
Technical Analysis
The panel shows Yáñez's distinctive blend of Leonardesque soft modeling with the heightened devotional intensity characteristic of Spanish religious painting.
