Madonna and Child with Saint John

Paolo da San Leocadio created this devotional painting around 1510, now in the Museu de Belles Arts de València. The work reflects the artistic production of the High Renaissance period, when workshops across Europe produced paintings for churches, courts, and private collectors. The tempera-on-panel medium required a carefully gessoed surface and was painted in fine, precise layers, yielding a luminous, jewel-like surface of great durability.
