Hon. Richard Neville (1783–1858)

The Hon. Richard Neville from 1799 by John Hoppner depicts a member of the Neville family, descendants of the medieval Earls of Warwick. The portrait captures a young man from one of England's most historic families during the Georgian period. Hoppner's oil handling favored warm flesh tones over silvery grey half-shadows, producing an immediate vivacity that reflected his admiration for Reynolds and Gainsborough.
