Madonna and Child with Saint John the Baptist

Antoniazzo Romano created this work around 1450, now in the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille. Madonna and Child images were produced in enormous quantities by Renaissance workshops, serving as essential furnishings for churches, chapels, and private households. The Early Renaissance period saw significant artistic innovation across Europe, with painters developing new techniques for representing the visible world with unprecedented naturalism and spatial coherence.
