Franz von Assisi

This depiction of St Francis of Assisi by Andrea Vanni at the Lindenau Museum in Altenburg reflects the Sienese painter's sustained engagement with Franciscan devotional imagery throughout his career. Vanni was deeply embedded in Siena's religious culture, maintaining close ties with the Dominican mystic St Catherine of Siena while also serving Franciscan patrons.
