Holy Family with Saint Catherine

Francesco Torbido painted this Holy Family with Saint Catherine around 1525, a sacra conversazione in the Venetian tradition. Working in Verona under Giorgione's and Titian's influence, Torbido brought Venetian warmth and atmospheric color to Veronese devotional painting. The 1520s were a decade of transition, marked by the deaths of Raphael and Leonardo, the shock of the Reformation, and the beginnings of Mannerist experimentation.
