Girl with Cherries by Marco d'Oggiono

Girl with Cherries

Marco d'Oggiono·1491

Historical Context

Marco d'Oggiono, who was a faithful follower of Leonardo who made numerous copies of the Last Supper and propagated his master's style across Lombardy, created this work around 1491, now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This work reflects the artistic culture of Milan during the High Renaissance, when the innovations of the early fifteenth century reached their mature expression in works of unprecedented technical and compositional sophistication.

Technical Analysis

Accomplished tempera technique is evident in the smooth modeling of forms and the controlled color harmonies, with the composition following the spatial principles developed by fifteenth-century Italian workshops.
