Jacob Cornelisz van Oostsanen, the leading painter of Amsterdam before Jan van Scorel's arrival, created this composition around 1524. The work reflects the artistic conventions and devotional culture of the High Renaissance period, when religious painting served both public worship and private contemplation across Europe. Now held at Museum of Fine Arts Ghent (MSK), it demonstrates the artist's contribution to the rich visual culture of the early sixteenth century.
