Adoration of the Child

Hans Burgkmair the Elder, one of Augsburg's foremost painters and a pioneer of Renaissance style in Germany, created this Epiphany scene around 1520. The work reflects the artistic conventions and devotional culture of the High Renaissance period, when religious painting served both public worship and private contemplation across Europe. Now held at National Museum in Warsaw, it demonstrates the artist's contribution to the rich visual culture of the early sixteenth century.
