Triptych: Descent from the Cross

Master of the Holy Blood created this painting around 1519, now in the Museum van het Heilig Bloed. The work reflects the artistic production of the High Renaissance period, when workshops across Europe produced paintings for churches, courts, and private collectors. The oil medium allowed for rich tonal transitions and glazed layers of color that created luminous depth impossible with the older tempera technique.
