Heilige Familie (Schule)
Perugino·1484
Historical Context
This Holy Family, attributed to the school of Pietro Perugino, dates to around 1484. Perugino's workshop was enormously productive, and works attributed to his school reflect the widespread influence of his gentle, luminous style across central Italy. Copies and workshop versions of his compositions circulated widely. Pietro Perugino was the most successful painter in Central Italy around 1490-1505, running workshops in both Perugia and Florence while executing major commissions in Rome, including the Sistine Chapel frescoes.
Technical Analysis
Oil on panel in the Umbrian manner derived from Perugino's style. The soft modeling and luminous palette follow the master's characteristic approach, though the execution suggests workshop production.
