Christgartner Altar: Die Krönung Mariae

Hans Leonhard Schäufelein painted this Coronation of the Virgin as part of the Christgarten Altar around 1515. The Coronation of the Virgin was the culminating scene of Marian altar cycles, depicting Mary's reception into heavenly glory as the ultimate expression of Catholic Marian devotion. The 1510s were a decade of extraordinary artistic achievement across Europe, shaped by the mature works of Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and the Venetian masters.
