Bernardino Fungai painted this scene of Saint Clement Reuniting with His Family around 1500 in Siena. The legend of Pope Clement I's miraculous family reunion was a popular hagiographic narrative. Fungai was among the last significant painters of the Sienese school Altarpieces featuring rows of standing saints served both liturgical and devotional functions, identifying the church's patron saints and giving worshippers specific objects for personal prayer.
