Historical Context
Andrea Previtali painted this Risen Christ around 1510, depicting the triumphant Resurrected Christ as a devotional image. Having trained under Giovanni Bellini in Venice, Previtali brought the luminous color and contemplative mood of the Venetian school to his adopted city of Bergamo Egg tempera on panel was the dominant technique of the period, demanding careful layer-by-layer construction and patient craftsmanship The work is now in the collection of Rhode Island School of Design Museum.
