Historical Context
This view of Dolo on the Brenta canal, around 1774, in the Detroit Institute of Arts, depicts one of the mainland towns along the waterway connecting Venice to Padua. Venetian patricians maintained country villas along the Brenta, and views of the canal were popular subjects.
