Christ Sends St. John and St. James in Apostolic Mission

The Master of Lourinhã, an anonymous painter identified by a characteristic work, created this composition around 1520. The work reflects the artistic conventions and devotional culture of the High Renaissance period, when religious painting served both public worship and private contemplation across Europe.
