Die Verkündigung an Maria
Meister von Veringen·1505
Historical Context
The Meister von Veringen painted this Annunciation to Mary around 1505 for the Wurth Collection. The Annunciation was the foundational scene of the Christian narrative, marking the moment of the Incarnation when the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would bear the Son of God. The tempera-on-panel medium required a carefully gessoed surface and was painted in fine, precise layers, yielding a luminous, jewel-like surface of great durability.
Technical Analysis
The panel presents the angel and the Virgin in the traditional Annunciation format with the Swabian school's characteristic bright palette and precise linear drawing.
