This Adoration of the Shepherds attributed to Leandro Bassano represents the continuation of the workshop's production of a subject that had been commercially successful for the Bassano family since Jacopo's innovations in the mid-sixteenth century. By the mid-seventeenth century the formula was well established, and works produced by the workshop or its followers maintained the tradition without significant innovation. The subject remained popular for Venetian church commissions and private collectors alike.

The nocturnal setting is illuminated by the Child's glow, with additional warm light sources suggested by the figures around the manger. The compositional arrangement is close to other Bassano workshop versions of the subject, reflecting the studio's practice of repeating successful compositions. The handling is competent and warm-toned throughout.
