Passionstafel, rechte Tafel: Grablegung Christi
Thoman Burgkmair·1495
Historical Context
Thoman Burgkmair, father of the more famous Hans Burgkmair the Elder, was active as a painter in Augsburg during the second half of the fifteenth century. This Passion panel depicting the Entombment of Christ dates to around 1495 and formed part of a multi-panel altarpiece. The elder Burgkmair contributed to Augsburg's artistic traditions before his son transformed them through contact with Italian art.
Technical Analysis
