Hans von Kulmbach painted this Annunciation panel of the Virgin Mary around 1513 for the Kunsthistorisches Museum. As one of Duerer's most capable Nuremberg followers, Kulmbach developed altarpiece commissions that brought the master's graphic precision to large-scale devotional painting. The 1510s were a decade of extraordinary artistic achievement across Europe, shaped by the mature works of Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and the Venetian masters.
