Saint George and the Dragon

Hans von Kulmbach, one of Dürer's most talented pupils active in Nuremberg, created this devotional saint image around 1510. The work reflects the artistic conventions and devotional culture of the High Renaissance period, when religious painting served both public worship and private contemplation across Europe. Now held at Wallraf–Richartz Museum, it demonstrates the artist's contribution to the rich visual culture of the early sixteenth century.
